Affirmation cards are like magic words
Be happy, not because everything is good, but because you see good in everything.
We pick an affirmation card and practice affirmations first thing in the morning with our kids. It helps us start the day off on a positive note. We also talk about the affirmation card at dinner time as a family or just before going to sleep, everyone talks about how their day went and how they practiced their affirmation that day.
Our affirmation cards are designed to be fun and engaging for kids, not a formal conversation. The imagery and colour help to keep that fun element alive and magical.
A great trick we've done at home is to explain to our kiddies that affirmations are like magic words, and if repeated often enough they gain enough strength to become true.
Another great opportunity is if your child is going through a specific issue - Pick a card that can assist with that issue. A great example being if your child is struggling with homework, an affirmation card that states “all my problems have solutions, I dont give up” is a perfect opportunity to help push through the problem. Repeat the affirmation and offer support and alternatives.
Another great example in the I AM FAIR card, it relates really well to kids who might struggle with sharing or playing 'gentle'. The card reads 'say sorry if you do something wrong, its OK to make mistakes it helps us learn'. We've so many examples where every day life has been supported with a simple card and focuses the conversation but most importantly, led by the child.
P.S. Our affirmation cards are not just for children, we've benefited too!
